We are delighted to welcome Ricardo Berenguer to our research group as our newest PhD student at Karolinska Institutet. Ricardo’s academic background and professional expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and survival analysis make him a great addition to our interdisciplinary team. His PhD project will focus on characterising future risks to population health related to climate extremes.
Originally from Spain, Ricardo earned his master’s degree in Epidemiology from Columbia University in New York, where he gained expertise in quantitative methodologies and public health research principles, with a particular emphasis on environmental and cancer epidemiology. His early career included research at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid, exploring genetic susceptibility to prostate cancer.
Before embarking on his doctoral journey, Ricardo served as an associate biostatistician at Red Door Analytics in Stockholm, Sweden. There, he specialised in applying advanced statistical models to large, complex datasets. His role involved developing reproducible workflows, leveraging programming languages such as R and SAS, and collaborating closely with leading experts in biostatistics.
Ricardo’s proactive and curious approach, paired with his attention to detail, enables him to excel in complex analytical tasks and collaborative projects. His rich international experience and broad skill set complement our team’s dynamic, cross-disciplinary approach.
Outside academia, Ricardo is an avid athlete, with over 18 years of competitive water polo experience. He has completed the LA Marathon and is currently preparing for a half Ironman triathlon. In his downtime, Ricardo enjoys cooking, particularly traditional Spanish dishes, and reading.
We warmly welcome Ricardo to our team and look forward to his valuable contributions to research that will benefit society as a whole.
